Headspace Gas Chromatography

An analytical sampling approach that isolates and analyzes volatile compounds by sampling the gas phase (headspace) above a solid or liquid food sample and introducing that gas into a gas chromatograph; sampling may be static (equilibration) or dynamic (purge‑and‑trap) and conditions determine which fraction of volatiles is measured.
