Package Swelling

Expansion or distension of a hermetically closed food package caused by an increase in internal gas pressure or volume relative to the package headspace and material compliance, typically resulting from microbial gas production, chemical decomposition, or physical vapor/thermal effects and indicating a departure from expected product–package equilibrium.
