An independent or semi‑independent individual or office, internal or external to a media organization, charged with receiving and investigating reader or viewer complaints about newsroom practice, assessing editorial conduct and transparency, and issuing findings or critiques intended to hold the organization accountable to its own standards or to the public interest.
