Un objet algébrique (anneau, module, etc.) est non-artinien s'il ne vérifie pas la condition de chaîne descendante (DCC) : il existe une suite strictement décroissante infinie I1 ⊃ I2 ⊃ I3 ⊃ ··· qui ne se stabilise pas.
