Institutionalization

The process by which practices, norms, roles, or organizations become established, routinized, and taken for granted within social structures through formal rules, recurring procedures, role differentiation, and stabilizing justification mechanisms; distinct from temporary coordination, isolated policies, or mere adoption of a technique.

The process by which practices, beliefs, or groups acquire formal organizational structures, codified rules, designated roles, and recurrent routines that persist beyond individual actors or moments.
