Dual Coding Theory

A cognitive theory that proposes information is processed in two partially independent but interacting systems—a verbal (linguistic) system and a nonverbal (imagery) system—and that encoding information in both systems using semantically aligned verbal and pictorial representations increases the likelihood of comprehension and recall.
