A process of cultural change that occurs when groups or individuals from sustained contact adopt, modify, or lose cultural traits—behaviours, beliefs, languages, technologies or symbols—as a result of interpersonal, institutional or structural interactions; the process may be bidirectional, asymmetric, partial, and mediated by power, choice, and institutional frameworks.
