Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption

A pathological increase in the permeability of the blood–brain barrier (the specialized endothelial–perivascular complex composed of tight-junctioned endothelium, pericytes and astrocyte endfeet) that permits passage of blood-borne solutes, proteins, cells or pathogens into the central nervous system compartments normally protected by the barrier.
