Tropicalization

A combinatorial-geometric process that assigns to an algebraic variety a piecewise-linear polyhedral complex (its tropical variety) by applying a valuation coordinatewise and replacing algebraic operations by tropical ones (min-plus or max-plus), capturing leading-order valuation behaviour.
