Thermal Mass

The capacity of a material or assembled building element to absorb, store, and later release thermal energy, characterized by its heat capacity per unit area or volume and by the strength of its thermal coupling to interior spaces; 'effective thermal mass' denotes the portion of mass that participates in the short‑ to medium‑term thermal response of the conditioned space.
