A reproducible, explicit process for identifying, selecting, appraising, and synthesizing all studies that meet pre-specified eligibility criteria to answer a focused research question; methods (search strategy, inclusion criteria, appraisal and synthesis approach) are documented in advance to minimise selection and reporting bias.
