Sylvester's Law of Inertia

A classification statement for real quadratic forms (or symmetric real matrices up to congruence): any real symmetric matrix is congruent to a diagonal matrix with entries 1, −1, and 0, and the numbers of positive, negative, and zero diagonal entries (the signature) are invariants independent of the chosen representing matrix.
