Probing Depth

The site-level measurement, expressed in millimetres, of the distance from the free gingival margin to the base of the gingival sulcus or periodontal pocket obtained with a calibrated periodontal probe inserted gently along the tooth surface under standardized angulation and probing force; a local soft-tissue depth measure that does not by itself indicate historical attachment loss.
