Periodontal Ligament

The specialized fibrous connective tissue that attaches the tooth’s cementum to the alveolar bone, composed of collagen fiber bundles, cells and extracellular matrix; it transmits and distributes occlusal forces, provides limited shock absorption and permits physiologic tooth movement and proprioceptive feedback.
