Mutually Protected Occlusion

An occlusal scheme in which posterior teeth are designed to bear predominantly vertical forces in centric relation, preserving vertical dimension and supporting mastication, while anterior teeth provide guidance during excursive (lateral and protrusive) movements and disclude the posterior teeth, thereby protecting posterior restorations and teeth from lateral forces.
