Moment Distribution Method
Definition
An iterative structural analysis method for statically indeterminate beams and frames that enforces joint equilibrium and member continuity by repeatedly distributing unbalanced moments at nodes to connected members according to their relative stiffness (distribution factors) and carrying over fixed moments to the far ends, continuing until residual moments fall below a convergence tolerance.
