Matrix Band Technique

A restorative method that employs a circumferential or sectional metal or preformed matrix band, often used with wedges and retainers, to recreate the external proximal surface, anatomic contour, and contact point of a tooth while placing a direct restorative material, thereby providing a temporary form against which the material can be condensed and shaped.
