Marketplace of Ideas
Definition
A normative doctrine that conceptualizes public discourse as a competitive environment in which diverse viewpoints contend and, under conditions of open exchange and equal access, truth and better policy are expected to emerge from the competition of ideas; it is an argument for broad freedom of expression rather than an empirical law guaranteeing correction of falsehoods.
