Levee

An engineered embankment, earthwork or structural barrier constructed along a watercourse, floodplain or coastline to reduce the probability or extent of flooding of adjacent land; design considers crest elevation, cross‑section, materials, seepage control and maintenance to meet a specified level of protection under anticipated hydraulic conditions.
