Vector Competence

The intrinsic ability of an arthropod or other putative vector species to acquire a specific pathogen from an infected source, support that pathogen's replication or developmental progression within its body to a transmissible stage, and deliver the pathogen to a susceptible host under appropriate contact conditions.
