Utilitarianism

A normative ethical theory that evaluates actions by their consequences for overall welfare or well‑being, holding that morally preferable actions are those that produce the greatest aggregate balance of positive over negative value (utility) for affected parties, where aggregation and value metrics are specified by the particular utilitarian formulation.
