Transplacental Transmission

The passage of infectious agents, immune factors (e.g., antibodies), or other biologically active substances from a pregnant dam to the fetus across the placenta during gestation, resulting in fetal exposure that can lead to infection, immune priming or developmental effects depending on agent, timing and placental anatomy.
