Translational Slide

A mass movement in which a soil or rock mass moves primarily by sliding along an approximately planar, persistent failure surface so that blocks or layers translate with little internal rotation or deformation across the plane.

A slope failure in which material moves downslope along a planar or shallowly undulating surface with little internal rotation of the moving mass; movement commonly follows a pre‑existing plane of weakness such as bedding, foliation, or a weathered horizon.
