An absolute dating technique that estimates the time elapsed since certain mineral grains (commonly quartz or feldspar in ceramics, sediments, or heated stones) were last heated or exposed to sunlight by measuring the accumulated trapped‑electron charge released as light when the sample is heated in the laboratory; age estimates require knowledge of the sample’s environmental dose rate and an assu
