Temporalis Muscle

A fan-shaped muscle of mastication arising from the temporal fossa and temporal fascia and inserting on the coronoid process and anterior border of the mandibular ramus; its contraction elevates the mandible and the posterior fibers contribute to mandibular retraction. It is innervated by the mandibular (V3) branch of the trigeminal nerve.
