Systematic examination of a text or corpus’ observable linguistic and rhetorical choices (lexicon, syntax, morphology, figurative language, prosody, register, genre strategies and rhetorical devices) to characterize an author’s or discourse’s style, distinguish between stylistic profiles, and explain effects on interpretation or reception.
