Piping (Internal Erosion)

Progressive erosion of subsurface soil by flowing water that creates continuous internal tunnels or pipes, undermining surface and structural boundaries.

The progressive removal and transport of soil particles or fines by subsurface seepage flow that develops a continuous flow path (pipe) through an embankment, foundation or dam, reducing material strength and potentially causing sudden loss of structural integrity or breach.
