Photoelectric Effect

Emission of electrons from a material surface when it absorbs incident photons above a threshold energy.

Emission of electrons from a material’s surface (or immediate interface) induced when incident photons have energy equal to or greater than the material’s work function or emission barrier, producing an electron emission current; the process shows a threshold photon energy and an energy distribution of emitted electrons correlated with photon energy above threshold.
