Pericardium

The fibroserous sac that encloses the heart—consisting of an outer fibrous layer and an inner serous layer (parietal and visceral)—which mechanically protects and anchors the heart and limits acute cardiac dilation by constraining ventricular volume and transmitting external pressures to the cardiac chambers.
