Oppidum

An Oppidum is a large fortified settlement of the Late Iron Age in western and central Europe characterized by substantial earthworks or masonry defences and evidence of nucleated habitation, craft production, storage and exchange; it functions as a regional political and economic centre in its archaeological context.
