Obsidian Hydration Dating

A geochronological technique that estimates the time elapsed since an obsidian surface was created by measuring the thickness of the hydration layer (water‑diffused rind) that forms on freshly fractured volcanic glass and converting that measurement to an age using material‑specific and environment‑specific calibration.
