Metaphor Identification Procedure

A systematic coding procedure (originally formalized by the Pragglejaz Group as MIP) that identifies lexical units used metaphorically by comparing a unit's contextual meaning with its more basic, concrete meaning and marking instances where the contextual meaning contrasts with but can be understood in terms of the basic meaning.
