Kernel Density Estimation

A nonparametric method to estimate an unknown probability density function by placing smooth, scaled kernel functions at observed sample points and summing them.

A nonparametric spatial smoothing technique that places a kernel function at each observed point event and sums their contributions to estimate a continuous intensity surface; used to visualize and identify concentrations (hotspots) of point incidents without assuming a parametric underlying distribution.
