Definition
An empirical statistical relationship observed in seismology that expresses the logarithmic decline in the number of earthquakes with increasing magnitude within a defined region and time interval, commonly written as log10 N(M)=a−bM where N(M) is the cumulative number of events with magnitude ≥M and a,b are empirically estimated coefficients.
