Gusset Plate

A flat, typically triangular or trapezoidal steel plate used to connect, stiffen or reinforce the junction of structural members (beams, columns, trusses), transmitting and redistributing axial, shear and bending forces across the joint through welds or mechanical fasteners; designed to avoid local overstress and to provide required stiffness and load paths at connections.
