Envelope of Function

A three‑dimensional description of the spatial range and habitual trajectories within which the jaws, dentition and associated neuromuscular system operate during rest and function (resting posture, swallowing, mastication and speech); the envelope delimits the functional space that shapes and constrains occlusion and bone/dental adaptation.
