A polarized absorptive epithelial cell that forms the principal cellular lining of the small‑intestinal mucosa, specialized for final luminal digestion, carrier‑ and channel‑mediated uptake of nutrients at its apical surface, intracellular processing, and basolateral export into blood and lymph.
