Encaustic

A painting medium and technique in which pigments are mixed into heated wax (often beeswax, sometimes with added resins) and applied warm to a support, then mechanically or thermally fused so that pigment and wax form a consolidated, textured surface; the method enables layering, scraping and low‑relief modelling distinct from drying‑oil or water‑based systems.
