Ecological Plaque Hypothesis

A model stating that local environmental changes in the oral cavity (for example pH, nutrient availability, oxygen tension or inflammatory exudates) alter selective pressures on the biofilm, changing its composition and behavior so that formerly benign communities shift toward disease‑associated states.
