Eine ganze Zahl r ist ein quadratischer Rest modulo n, wenn es ein ganzes x gibt mit x^2 ≡ r (mod n); andernfalls ist r ein quadratischer Nichtrest modulo n. Residuen sind als Klassen modulo n zu verstehen.
