Cost Allocation
Definition
A systematic method for assigning indirect (overhead) costs to specified cost objects (products, departments, projects) by applying an explicit allocation base and rule so that the pooled indirect costs are fully apportioned for managerial measurement or external reporting; direct costs are recorded by direct tracing and are excluded from allocation.
