Contested Border

A sustained disagreement among actors—states, subnational authorities, communities, or institutions—about the lawful delimitation, effective control, administration, or permitted uses of a specific border area, such that the status, movement, rights, or governance within that area remain subject to competing claims and unresolved mechanisms of settlement.
