Barrier Permeability Increase

A measurable rise in the rate at which gases, water vapour or solutes pass through a packaging material or coating—expressed by material coefficients (e.g., OTR, WVTR or permeability coefficients)—that reduces the material's protective effectiveness for the intended product and storage conditions.
