Assimilation

The process by which members of one cultural group adopt the cultural norms, behaviors, language, or identity markers of another—often dominant—group such that the original group's distinctiveness is reduced; assimilation can be voluntary, incentivized, or coerced, and may be partial (public‑facing conformity) or generational (gradual adoption across descendants).
