Adhesive Failure

Failure mode where separation occurs at the interface between two bonded materials because the interfacial strength is lower than the applied stresses or energy input.

Separation that occurs at the bonding interface between an adhesive or luting agent and either the restorative/prosthetic material or the tooth/substrate, characterized by loss of interfacial adhesion while the bulk of the adherend materials remains intact.
