Accessioning

The formal administrative process by which an object is accepted into a collection and recorded as part of that collection, including assignment of a unique accession identifier, creation of descriptive and legal records (provenance, acquisition method, donor or seller data, rights and restrictions), and an initial condition assessment to establish the object's managed status.
