Hypothetico-Deductive Method

A systematic empirical strategy that formulates one or more testable hypotheses, deduces observable consequences or predictions from them (often together with auxiliary assumptions), and subjects those predictions to empirical or conceptual tests; failure of deduced predictions falsifies or requires revision of the hypothesis, while passing tests provides corroboration without deductive proof.
