Hygiene Hypothesis
Definition
A hypothesis proposing that reduced exposure to diverse, non‑pathogenic microorganisms and certain early‑life microbial environments (due to increased cleanliness, antibiotic use, urban living, or smaller households) can alter immune development—especially regulatory pathways—and thereby increase susceptibility to allergic and some autoimmune conditions.
