Horizontal Integration

The process by which a firm expands by acquiring, merging with, or consolidating other firms that operate at the same level of the supply chain or in the same product market, thereby increasing market presence, capacity or product range within that level.

The deliberate coordination and alignment of activities, protocols, information and objectives among peer organizations or units operating at the same organizational or jurisdictional level to achieve joint operational outcomes while preserving each unit’s formal authority.
