Gingiva

The oral mucosal tissue that immediately surrounds teeth and covers the alveolar processes, composed of stratified squamous epithelium (keratinized or parakeratinized where attached) and underlying connective tissue, forming a contiguous epithelial and connective-tissue seal around the cervical regions of teeth that protects deeper periodontal structures.
